My interest in UX design/research began when I spoke to a UX designer friend who described the role as a combination of information organization, psychology, and arts skills, in order to make a tech product easy, accessible, and fun to use. Interested in learning more, I joined Design Buddies, an online community created to bring designers of all backgrounds and disciplines together. I was so intrigued by the different facets of design and how it combined my passions for learning about people's behaviors and empathizing with others, through coming up with tangible solutions with digital design. This encouraged me to join UXTerps, my university's organization of students interested in user experience research and design.

My name is Paula Shin
and I am passionate about human centered design.

I enjoy working on interesting problems to deliver the most efficient, accessible, and visually appealing solutions. I have experience in user experience and graphic/visual design for industries like health insurance, entertainment events, and other promotional purposes.

I’ll be furthering my interest in user experience by pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University - the premiere institute for HCI. I also just recently wrapped up my contract as an Associate Product Designer at Health eCareers, working on various projects to support the Product Team.

When I am not designing, I am either weightlifting, cooking, or finding new adventures here in Pittsburgh.

Apart from seeing my designs come to life, I also get excited by:

A powerlifting competition I competed in last year

Hiking in Jungfraujoch, Switzerland

– the highest accessible railway in Europe

Hiking at Zion National Park on the

Angel's Landing trail – known as

one of the most dangerous hikes

in the US!

☆ staying active through weightlifting or hiking

I find that consistently being active helps me with not only my physical health, but also improves my mental health tremendously. I also like to track my activity through Notion pages, and enjoy tracking my progress as a form of self improvement. These are some of my favorite forms of physical activity I’ve partaked in this year!

Tteokbokki (Korean spicy rice cakes)

Kimchi Jigae (Korean Kimchi soup)

Handmade summer rolls

☆ finding new recipes and cooking / baking

Cooking allows me to fuel my body, and de-stress and purely concentrate on the meal that I'm making. These are some of my favorite foods I’ve prepared!
